Kaare Hansen

Kaare Hansen studied music at the University of Copenhagen and conducting at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. He has also studied, with support from the Sonning and Augustinus Foundations, with Pierre Boulez. Kaare Hansen has conducted most Danish ensembles and symphony orchestras and has been responsible for several premieres including Per Nørgård’s The Divine Circus in 1983 at the Danish National Opera in Aarhus, which he conducted again in 1995 at St. Gall in Switzerland and under the auspices of the Funen Opera in 1996. The same year he conducted the world premiere of opera Nuit des Hommes. In February 1997 he conducted Sir Peter Maxwell Davies’ opera The Lighthouse at The Other Opera, where he also conducted opera Amalie in 1998. Kaare Hansen works today as chorusmaster at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen.
