Maria Bania

flute
Maria Bania originally trained on the recorder at the Conservatory in Oslo, where she studied with Hans Olav Gorset. In 1988 she made her debut on the transverse flute at the Conservatory in The Hague, and since then she has worked as a flautist in Scandinavia: since the beginning of the 1990s she has been the solo flautist in Concerto Copenhagen and has also been engaged for a few seasons at the Drottningholm Theatre and played with the Wasa Baroque Ensemble. With Concerto Copenhagen she has recorded flute concertos by Agrell and Scheibe on the Chandos and Musica Sveciae labels. An important reference point in Maria Bania’s career is Corona Artis – a Baroque ensemble with its base in Gothenburg. With Corona Artis she has recorded chamber music, and she has been a soloist in the Swedish Radio chamber music series. Earlier this year Maria Bania was engaged at the Conservatory in Gothenburg, where she is researching flute playing techniques of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
