Ian Ryan
Ian Ryan studied Economics at Selwyn College, Cambridge, and later as a repetiteur at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the National Opera Studio. He currently lives in Copenhagen, where he is a music staff member at the Royal Danish Opera. For the Royal Danish Opera, Ian Ryan has conducted performances of Die Zauberflöte, Nixon in China, andSweeney Todd. Other conducting highlights include Thomas Adès’Powder her Face with the Britten Sinfonia, Jonathan Dove’sSwanhunter for Opera North and Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia with Athelas Sinfonietta Copenhagen. In 2019, Ian Ryan conducted performances of Peter Maxwell Davies’ Eight Songs for a Mad King with Danish bass Sten Byriel, in collaboration with the Egnsteatret Undergrunden, Danish Chamber Players and the Copenhagen Opera Festival. In 2015, he conducted the world premiere of Erik Chisholm’s one-act opera Simoon.
