Axel Jørgensen

composer
1881
1947
Axel Jørgensen was a violinist and trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Music. After a brief period as a violinist in the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra he was engaged as a violist in the Royal Danish Orchestra, where he worked until his death. He was a good friend of the orchestra’s then solo trombonist Anton Hansen, and it was presumably this friendship that inspired him to write a number of works for brass instruments, including Capriccio Orientale for trumpet and orchestra, a trombone concerto and a number of chamber works for trumpet and trombone with piano accompaniment.
