Concerto Copenhagen is P2 Artist 2022
The Baroque orchestra Concerto Copenhagen and its artistic director Lars Ulrik Mortensen have just been announced P2 Artist 2022.
Denmark’s Baroque orchestra Concerto Copenhagen gave its first concerts back in 1991, since when it has developed into Scandinavia’s leading ensemble for early music and one of the most exciting and innovative Baroque orchestras in the world.
Original interpretations and a great ability to communicate with the audience are among Concerto Copenhagen’s hallmarks – the eary music is made vital, relevant and contemporary.
Prize-giving ceremony and concert
The P2 Prize is when classical music in Denmark celebrates artists, composers and performers. The main prize is the title of P2 Artist, which in 2022 is to be awarded Concerto Copenhagen and its artistic director Lars Ulrik Mortensen.
The official awarding of the prize will be celebrated with a concert at the P2 Prize on 4 February 2022 in DR Koncerthuset. Listeners can look forward to hearing much more from the Baroque orchestra in 2022, as extra attention will be paid to it by P2 throughout the year.
Critically acclaimed albums with fresh interpretations
Concerto Copenhagen has recorded various albums on Dacapo Records which demonstrate their unique capacity to renew Baroque music through fresh and contemporary interpretations.
On the critically acclaimed album The Four Seasons after Vivaldi Concerto Copenhagen plays Karl Aage Rasmussen’s incisive recomposition of Vivaldi’s much-loved work.
Ich bin die Auferstehung - Buxtehude and his Copenhagen Connections presents solo cantatas and chamber music from the Baltic area in the 17th century, recorded by Concerto Copenhagen and bass-baritone Jakob Bloch Jespersen.
Concerto Copenhagen is also featured in the first recording of Niels W. Gade’s Erlkönigs Tochter (Elverskud) on original instruments and with the German song text which led to the work’s international fame.
