South Jutland Symphony Orchestra

South Jutland Symphony Orchestra was established in 1963, and the orchestra gives concerts in the southern part of Denmark and in South Schleswig (Germany), where it is an indispensable part of the regional cultural life. The orchestra consists of 66 permanently employed musicians, and gives about 160 annual concerts. Yearly South Jutland Symphony Orchestra gives concerts with the Schleswig-Holsteinisches Sinfonieorchester in Flensburg. Moreover the orchestra gives concerts with high school choirs from the whole region and organizes an annual workshop where new music by Danish composers is played. In addition to this the orchestra is playing to the performances of The Danish National Opera (Den Jyske Opera) in this part of Denmark. The orchestra has toured in Germany, Switzerland, France and the Faroe Islands. The new concert hall Alsion in the city of Sønderborg is the home of South Jutland Symphony Orchestra, whose chief conductor since 2006 has been Vladimir Ziva (Russia).
